Fook Weng Chan  |  M.Arch.

God’s gift of a career that has been like a hobby has spanned 5 decades.

Architectural studies at the University of Manitoba were followed by 15 years of work, primarily with Thompson Berwick Pratt and its successor firms Hemingway Nelson Architects and Brian Hemingway Architect in Vancouver, where Fook Weng Chan was an Associate from 1985 to 1996.  Master-planning, urban design and architectural work there included ceremonial, transit, exposition, recreational, educational, research, corporate office, justice, hospitality and residential projects in Canada and abroad.  Many were published and featured in documentaries. Ten North American design awards were received.

In 1996, Fook Weng Chan started FWC Architecture, a boutique firm focusing on bespoke single-family homes.  These highly contextual, crafted contemporary homes, together with his design process attracted the attention of curators at the European Cultural Centre in Venice.  In 2016, an invitation to exhibit at their palaces as part of the Venice Architecture Biennale, the premier contemporary architecture exhibition in the world was accepted.  For 6 months, his work was displayed alongside 100 other architects from almost 60 countries.  His work was also published in several international coffee table books, dozens of publications and a few documentaries.

In spring of 2024, ahead of full retirement, 'FWC Architecture & Urban Design' was closed and Fook Weng resigned his architectural membership.  He remains passionate about architecture and now responds to requests for conceptual design of buildings, interiors and unique design challenges.

FWC Design Concepts website features a sampling of Fook Weng’s projects from the past 3 decades.
